Fresh Mango Frozen Yoghurt (FroYo) at Home!

Mangoes! The joy of the Indian summer 🙂 To be honest there isn’t much else to be joyful about, as far as the Indian summer is concerned. Most of us turn to our refrigerators to provide us respite from the heat. Cold drinks and frozen desserts are our best friends this season.

So what about turning the sweet nectar of the mangoes into a cool frozen dessert? Bring it on! The dessert I made is Mango Frozen Yoghurt. It is so easy and simple and awesomely delicious! I can’t stop eating it and that’s okay because it’s not laden with calories either. Talk about a win-win 😉

The recipe is so simple that it’s blasphemy to call it a recipe. However, I can’t not share with you all something I love and enjoy so much.

Ingredients:

Mangoes – 6

Yoghurt – 2 cups

Milk Cream/Packaged Cream (Optional)

Sugar (Optional)

Procedure:

1. Peel and remove the pulp of 5 mangoes. Leave one mango aside for now.

 

2. Take out 2 cups of yoghurt in a deep container, or your food processor and let it come to room temperature if it’s cold. Blend it well using a hand blender or a food processor.

3. Carefully fold the mango pulp in the blended yoghurt. Mix well by hand and taste. Add sugar if needed, if the mangoes aren’t sweet enough or the yoghurt is sour. I did not add sugar because the mangoes were sweet enough.

4. Blend the mixture together until smooth. Place the mango-yoghurt mixture in a bowl safe for freezer, and freeze for an hour. Take it out after an hour and whisk again. Repeat 3-4 times.

5. Peel and dice the last remaining mango. Add it to the yoghurt after whisking it 3-4 times (or 2 if you wish). Now finally place it in the freezer for about 6 hours or until firmly set.

Take it out, scoop in your favourite bowl and enjoy the delights of lush juicy heavenly mangoes in your easy home-made Mango FroYo!

Tips:

  1. If you’re using fat free yoghurt or home made from toned milk, add two tablespoons of milk cream to it.
  2. If you have an ice cream maker, no need for the freeze-whip cycle. Simply place in your ice cream maker until set.
  3. The mango pieces are optional; they add to the feel of the dessert.
  4. If you have an ice cream maker, the texture of your Mango FroYo will be very similar to ice cream. When manually whipping, some ice crystals will inevitably form, like in mine. Ignore them, and savour the taste! 😉

 

This is by far the easiest dessert I have made, and one of the tastiest. What’s more, it’s low cal too! Tastes similar to Mango ice cream without the extra sugar and cream. Even if you add sugar and cream, trust me it won’t be as much as packaged ice cream.

So go ahead, put those mangoes to good use and relax with this awesome fresh fruit sorbet-like dessert at home 😀
